Lent: Beauty, Resistance, and the Quiet War for Your Soul

Lent is a season the world does not always understand.
It is not loud. It is not flashy. It does not demand attention the way other seasons do.
And yet, for those who walk through it with Christ, it is one of the most profound and transformative times of the year. But I will say this honestly—Lent was not always peaceful for me.
In fact, for many years, it was one of the most difficult seasons I experienced.
When Lent Became a Battle
Before I left mediumship, I noticed something I could not ignore.
Each year during Lent, something shifted. There was resistance. There was tension. There was an unspoken pressure to stay quiet about Jesus.
Not everyone reacted this way—but some did. And it was enough to notice a pattern.
When I spoke openly about Jesus, it was not always received well. There was discomfort—sometimes subtle, sometimes direct.
And what became even more clear to me over time was this:
I could not continue readings during Lent. It became increasingly difficult—spiritually, emotionally, and internally. There was a heaviness that would come over me.
The Season the Enemy Resists
Lent is not just symbolic.
It is a season of repentance. A season of returning. A season of drawing closer to God in truth.
And because of that—it is a season the enemy does not ignore.
Looking back, I can see it clearly:
There was pressure to stay silent about Jesus. There was discomfort when truth was spoken. There was resistance when I moved toward Him.
Not chaos. Not always obvious darkness.
Just enough pressure…to keep me from stepping fully into truth.
Why Lent Felt So Heavy
When you are walking in something that is not aligned with God—even if it feels meaningful, even if it feels “helpful”—there is often a quiet tension in your spirit. Lent brings that tension to the surface.
It removes distractions. It exposes what is hidden. It makes things clearer.
And clarity can feel uncomfortable before it feels freeing.
At the time, I didn’t have the language for it.
Now I understand:
Lent was inviting me out.
Out of confusion. Out of spiritual compromise. Out of something that was never meant to carry me.
And into truth.
The Beauty I Couldn’t See Yet
What I once experienced as heaviness, I now recognize as invitation.
Lent is not meant to burden us.
It is meant to cleanse.
It is a season where:
We lay things down• We become more aware of God’s voice• We return to what is true• We allow God to gently reveal what does not belong
There is a quiet beauty in that.
A stillness. A sacred simplicity. No striving. No performing. No chasing.
Just returning.
From Resistance to Peace
Now, on the other side of leaving mediumship, Lent feels completely different.
There is still reflection. There is still surrender. There is still refinement.
But there is no confusion.
There is peace.
A deeper peace than I ever experienced before.
Because this time, I am not navigating two worlds.
I am rooted in one.
For Those Who Feel the Tension
If you are reading this and Lent feels heavy for you…
If you feel resistance, confusion, or a pull you cannot quite explain…
Pay attention to that.
Not with fear. But with honesty.
God does not force.He invites.
And sometimes, what feels like discomfort is actually the beginning of clarity.
A Final Reflection
There was a time I thought Lent was something to get through.
Now I understand—it is something to enter into.
Not as a performance. Not as a checklist.
But as a return.
A return to truth. A return to God. A return to the One who never left.
Closing Prayer
Lord,
Thank You for the quiet seasons that draw us back to You. Even when we do not understand what we feel, You are working.
Give us discernment to recognize Your voice. Give us courage to follow where You lead. And give us peace as we let go of anything that is not from You.
In this season of Lent, refine us, restore us, and return our hearts fully to You.
Amen.
